Politifact checks Duffy’s claim that half of counties have only one Obamacare provider, or none

meter mostly false

Wisconsin Republican U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy said in July: “You have almost half the counties in America that have one provider or no provider for insurance. This law is crumbling.” PolitiFact Wisconsin fact-checks the claim and finds that while it may become true in the future, it is false now.

  1. From the Kaiser report cited in the PolitiFact article: “There are a number of areas in the country with just one exchange insurer. In 2017, about 21% of enrollees (living in 33% of counties) have access to just one insurer on the marketplace (up from 2% of enrollees living in 7% of counties in 2016).”

That alarming trend is what should be important, not Duffy’s “mostly false” claim — which you are using here as a red herring.
